Echelon Has the Clothing You Need for the Backcountry
Jackets
We have jackets to keep you warm and keep the elements out. We carry a wide range of hard and soft shell jackets from Cloudveil, Marmot, Icebreaker and more. We have jackets with Gore-Tex or other water-proof coatings. A hard shell will keep you warm and dry on even the stormiest days, while a soft shell will keep you cool under the intense winter sun while skinning to the summit before making your favorite descent. Manage your layers to stay dry and warm for a more enjoyable and safer day wherever your journey may take you.
Pants
Your ski pants should keep you warm and dry but allow breathability when you are working hard. When looking for ski pants, consider a pair with good venting and boot-top gators to keep the deep powder out of your boots. Ski pants with good water-proofing will keep you dry and warm.
Base layers
Everything from your skin to your jacket shell is part of the base layer. Start with good long underwear tops and bottoms made of a natural fiber, synthetic fabric or wool. Next, add a second layer to act as an insulator. Preferably this layer should be made of the same type of fabric as the first to aid in moisture management and transfer (wicking the water away from your skin). Add a third layer if the weather is cold before putting on either an outer hard or soft shell.
Cover Your Head, Hands and Feet
A great deal of body heat is lost from your head. Choose a good, warm hat. We carry a wide assortment of hats including hats that will fit under a helmet. Don’t let your hands get cold, either. We carry gloves in all types, from mittens to thin glove liners to water proof gloves to expedition weight mitts. We’ve got whatever it will take to keep your hands warm in the back country. For socks we suggest wool which is not too thick, because an overly tight-fitting boot can leave you with cold feet.
